The Needham Area Immigration Justice Task Force submitted testimony to the Joint Committee on Labor and Workforce Development in support of “An Act to Protect Injured Workers” (H.2151/S.1310). This legislation, one of the Task Force’s high priority bills, was submitted for its hearing on June 18, 2025.
This legislation is consistent with our mission which includes “We take action to welcome immigrants, change unjust policies, and ensure fair working conditions and security for families.”
As written in the testimony, this bill would significantly impact the well-being of immigrants and their families by giving workers a process for holding employers accountable and getting compensated for workplace injuries.
Although workers’ comp benefits are available to workers regardless of their immigration status, employers know low-wage immigrant workers are less likely to report injuries due to concerns of retaliation from employers as well as general fear from the current administration’s immigration policies.
The Task Force encourages the Joint Committee, as well as our own legislators, to support this bill as it moves through the legislative process.
