In the Country We Love – The Moving, Heartbreaking Story of One Woman’s Extraordinary Resilience

As part of  a Needham-wide “read” focusing on the issue of immigration, TBS will be hosting a discussion of In the Country We Love by Diane Guerrero and Michelle Burford.  The discussion will be co-led by Elise Gottesman of the TBS Tzekek Leadership Team and Litzy Gastelum, a Needham High senior and member of the Needham Diversity Initiative.

Diane Guerrero, the television actress from “Orange is the New Black” and “Jane the Virgin,” was just fourteen years old on the day her parents and older brother were detained and deported while she was at school.  Born in the U.S., Guerrero remained in the country, continuing her education and depending on the kindness of family friends. Many undocumented immigrants living in the U.S. have citizen children whose lives here are just as precarious and whose stories haven’t been told. TBS members and guests are welcome.  Please RSVP to Deena Siegel, deenams@comcast.net.
